A New Chapter Rooted in Community
Our neighborhood nonprofit brings neighbors together to strengthen community connections, encourage growth, and enhance our shared spaces. From the Garden Club and Social Club to our beautification team, we work side by side to host free events, maintain community areas, and keep our neighborhood vibrant and welcoming — including favorites like the beautiful tulip roundabout.
Why J-Bird…
Our Journey
- I live in the neighborhood so it made sense for this to be a way for J-Bird to give back to a community we’ve enjoyed, and hope to get equity from.
- The website was outdated both from a responsive perspective and branding. Photos, information, everything was broken into fractional pages rather than thinking of UX and ensuring a cohesive layout for those less familiar aka users to easily navigate the site in order to find the information they need
- SEO Optimization, although not a goal of the work, was also implemented to boost the discoverability of the informative site
- Basic things such as improving slugs from about-3-2 to about-fourth-gill-neighborhood (redirecting the old links along the way)
Primary Objectives
- Overall refresh on their existing platform
- Someone to strategically organize received copyright approved images from the community ListServ (aka the neighborhood)
- Someone to make executive decisions on consolidating and elevating the sitemap so users could easily find information
Solutions …
SERVICES RENDERED aka what j-Bird did
- Used their existing platform, WIX
- Used the drag and drop building system to improve the flow and design of the site
- Made the layout and website content responsive to all screen sizes
- Updated the imagery throughout the site
- Consolidated and improved the UX through main navigation improvements / having a parent child hierarchy for the information that existed for an interactive dropdown, without eliminating the pages or its content
Additional Collaborations
All the neighbors helped with edits to the website, photography updates, new content suggestions, and layout. It was truly, much like the organization itself, a community effort from proud locals.
Outcomes of the project…
Reflection
The website is now functioning in a way that better serves those who use it to find neighborhood events, upcoming announcements, committees, imagery, etc.
With a wide demographic range – having a user friendly and responsive website is an easy way to build community rather than fracture it. It allows the people who live here to showcase the initiatives made, and events planned. Having the site be a living and breathing billboard into what’s happening rather than just a static example of what was? Amazing.
I am proud and passionate about utilizing my talents to benefit and uplift those in my neighborhood.
